On February 17th and 18th our Rotaract club held the largest community effort of the year: a Clothing Bazaar for refugees and newcomers to our community. The main goal of our Club throughout the year has been to give support and help to all refugees who recently arrived in Kingston. On June 2022 we started a close collaboration with KEYS resettlement center in Kingston. Since then, we have been organizing events and fundraisers for this purpose. Several families, especially from Ukraine, eastern countries, and Africa arrived in Kingston during the winter with as little as a backpack worth of clothes. On November 4th, 2022, we helped KEYS in organizing a Winter Clothing Drive for refugees, to help them go through their first Canadian winter. It was a tremendous effort; however, refugees and newcomers keep coming, and they are in continuous need our help. Therefore, we decided to commit and organize a Clothing Bazaar for all refugees and newcomers on February 18th, 2023. The purpose of this event was not only to focus on donating winter clothing, but also everyday clothing, and small kitchen items to all newcomers to Kingston. We wanted to organize it in a friendly and welcoming environment and to have a suitable space and activities for kids.
The turnout of the event was incredible. The generosity of the Kingston community was unbelievable and by Saturday morning we had enough donations to fill a large conference room. Starting at 6:00 AM on Saturday morning a huge volunteering effort took place at The Spire in Kingston. It was a wonderful collaboration between 6 organizations:
- Rotaract Club of Kingston (organizer)

- Rotary Club Kingston Frontenac
- Rotary Club of Kingston
- Boys and Girls Club
- ACFOMI
More than 30 volunteers from the 6 associations helped throughout the weekend and made this event a striking success. About 100 individuals benefited from the clothing bazaar and we had many kids from different nationalities playing around and having fun. At the end of the day, all donations were devolved to YGK thrift store in Kingston, which supports remote areas in Ontario.
Once again, I am deeply moved by the generosity of the Kingston community, and by the support of Rotary Clubs and other associations to our cause. A special thank you goes to Sam, general manager of The Spire in Kingston, who allowed us to organize the event in such a beautiful location. From a rotaractor point of view, I thank all the Rotary Clubs involved, especially the Rotary Club Kingston Frontenac in the name of Arja and Greta. Finally, as the president of the Rotaract Club of Kingston, I am proud of the work we have done, I thank every single member of my club for, and I am looking forward to our next project together.
Les17 et 18 février, notre club Rotaract a organisé le plus grand effort communautaire de l’année: un bazar de vêtements pour les réfugiés et les nouveaux arrivants dans notre communauté. L’objectif principal de notre club tout au long de l’année a été de soutenir et d’aider tous les réfugiés qui sont récemment arrivés à Kingston. En juin 2022, nous avons commencé une étroite collaboration avec le centre de réinstallation KEYS à Kingston. Depuis lors, nous organisons des événements et des collectes de fonds à cette fin. Plusieurs familles, en particulier d’Ukraine, de pays de l’Est et d’Afrique, sont arrivées à Kingston pendant l’hiver avec aussi peu qu’un sac à dos d’une valeur de vêtements. Le 4 novembre 2022, nous avons aidé KEYS à organiser une collecte de vêtements d’hiver pour les réfugiés, afin de les aider à traverser leur premier hiver canadien. Ce fut un effort énorme; cependant, les réfugiés et les nouveaux arrivants continuent d’arriver, et ils ont continuellement besoin de notre aide. Par conséquent, nous avons décidé de nous engager et d’organiser un bazar de vêtements pour tous les réfugiés et les nouveaux arrivants le 18 février 2023. Le but de cet événement n’était pas seulement de se concentrer sur le don de vêtements d’hiver, mais aussi de vêtements de tous les jours et de petits articles de cuisine à tous les nouveaux arrivants à Kingston. Nous voulions l’organiser dans un environnement convivial et accueillant et avoir un espace et des activités appropriés pour les enfants.
La participation à l’événement a été incroyable. La générosité de la communauté de Kingston était incroyable et samedi matin, nous avions suffisamment de dons pour remplir une grande salle de conférence. À partir de 6h00 le samedi matin, un énorme effort de bénévolat a eu lieu à The Spire à Kingston. Ce fut une merveilleuse collaboration entre 6 organisations:
- Rotaract Club de Kingston (organisateur)
- Centre de nouveaux arrivants KEYS
- Rotary Club Kingston Frontenac
- Club Rotary de Kingston
- Club garçons et filles
- ACFOMI
Plus de 30 bénévoles des 6 associations ont contribué tout au long du week-end et ont fait de cet événement un succès retentissant. Environ 100 personnes ont bénéficié du bazar de vêtements et nous avons eu beaucoup d’enfants de différentes nationalités qui jouaient et s’amusaient. En fin de compte, tous les dons ont été transférés au magasin d’aubaines YGK à Kingston, qui soutient les régions éloignées de l’Ontario.
Encore une fois, je suis profondément ému par la générosité de la communauté de Kingston et par le soutien des clubs Rotary et d’autres associations à notre cause. Un merci spécial à Sam, directeur général de The Spire à Kingston, qui nous a permis d’organiser l’événement dans un si bel endroit. D’un point de vue rotaractor, je remercie tous les Rotary Clubs impliqués, en particulier le Rotary Club Kingston Frontenac au nom d’Arja et Greta. Enfin, en tant que président du Club Rotaract de Kingston, je suis fier du travail que nous avons accompli, je remercie tous les membres de mon club et j’ai hâte de voir notre prochain projet ensemble.
