Valarie Wafer, Rotary International Director 2020-22, Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay
Valarie had a 27-year career as a restaurant owner in Toronto. The brand, Tim Hortons, is the most recognized and iconic franchise in Canada. The Wafer’s operation was best known for its inclusive hiring practices and accessibility, especially in the area of employment.
 
Valarie was governor of District 7070, which covers the greater Toronto area, in 2013/14. Now residing in Collingwood, her home club is the Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay, District 7010. Valarie has continued to serve Rotary in a number of international roles. She is an international trainer, a member of the international convention committee, representative of the Rotary International President, and most recently has been elected to serve on the board of Rotary International 2020-2022.
 
During Valarie’s tenure as a Rotarian she has participated and led many initiatives including a recent mission to Kosovo with Gift of Life International. She has also served as the Vocational Training Team leader to Australia in 2010 focusing on youth mental health, a national immunization day in India in 2012 and has travelled to Kenya and Tanzania to audit long term Rotary Foundation grant activity.
 
Valarie, and her husband of 33 years, Mark are Paul Harris Fellows, Bequest Society members and Major Donors to The Rotary Foundation.

Dr. Jenkins known as “Dr. Bowtie Todd”, is the founder of Bowtie Leadership & Development, a company dedicated to bringing diverse people together to increase individual or organizational productivity and performance. He serves as a trainer, consultant, motivational speaker, life coach, and conversationalist.

Dr. Jenkins is a certified Leadership Management International Facilitator, Coach, and Speaker with more than 10 years of training and development, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion work experience. He has worked with several clients, 1:1, small and large businesses and organizations throughout the world such as Korea, Taiwan, Africa, Mexico, and Brazil. He has spoken to crowds as large as 30, 000 and trains groups inside fortune 500 companies, colleges and universities, and various non-profits. He spends his life dedicated to helping others see their greatness through education, exposure, and best practices. His inspiration, energy, and motivation have been said to move mountains. 

Bio: Dr. Jenkins was born and raised in the inner city of Columbia, SC. The eldest of thirteen siblings and a first-generation college student, he is a proud alumnus of The University of South Carolina where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received his B.S. in Psychology and B.A. Sociology. He earned his Master of Science from Illinois State University and Doctorate from University of Arkansas. Throughout his undergraduate and professional career, Dr. Jenkins has served in various leadership roles and on multiple boards within higher education, professional organizations, non-profits and business in his community, both locally and internationally.

Dr. Jenkins continues to explore his strong passions through research and practices in leadership training and development for individuals and organizations, youth services and development, and intercultural conversations. In particular Todd’s doctoral dissertation focuses on Management, Leadership, Supervision, and Retention as it relates to the Minority and Millennium Professionals. Outside of work, he is active in his community, an international traveler, and spends his time enjoying family and friends.

  1. Rushton has been a Rotarian since 2004, as a member of the San Antonio Downtown Club (the world's largest), the Rotary Club of Santa Clara, the Rotary eClub of the Southwest USA (one of the first online clubs in Rotary),
  2. He is now is a member of the Rotary eClub of Silicon Valley, for which he is its charter president.

  • Rushton Hurley has worked all over the globe as a Japanese language teacher, school principal, school improvement consultant, and inspirational speaker. 
  • He directs the educational nonprofit Next Vista for Learning, which houses a free library of creative educational and service videos at NextVista.org, and holds masters degrees in Education and East Asian Studies from Stanford University.

The author of three books, Rushton's fun and thoughtful talks and writing center on inspiration and creativity, technology and leadership, avenues for engaging learning, the power of digital media and tools for collaboration, and personal and professional perspectives in a technology-infused, ever-changing world.
