DG Message August / août - We Are Adapting!

It has been a month since the start of this new Rotary year. I have been connecting with many Rotarians through online club meetings or emails. I have visited several clubs online and will soon be starting my official visits.

We are all exploring new territory with the online meeting format and many clubs were not comfortable in the beginning to adopt this format. Eventually, a vast majority of the clubs have started the format of online meetings. This taught us to adapt to a fast-growing technology, allowing me to visit many clubs virtually, and I enjoyed them. Every club has its format and style. This opportunity showed us that we can adapt to any situation that comes at us.

With a motto of "Service Above Self", even a Pandemic does not stop Rotary from serving our communities.

Rotary Club of Cornwall - We love to help those in our community! Giving Service Above Self is what it is all about!

This week Past President Dean dropped off 50 masks to each of these non-profits to hand out to any of their clients in need.

Thank you for all that you do in our community!!

Get That App!

It was a rainy day when I got the call.
He needed to know, right away,
"What's his email" he did say.
Holding my cell, I wanted to yell, please, please, give me the spell,
The magic we found, by bringing it down
Gave way to new sight: email addresses, events, phone numbers...ah...the light!
With rushing to cheer, the awakening is here!
Downloading the ClubRunner app, all with a fingertip, it was a snap,
Your club members’ detail will be very clear, your district executives have no fear.
You'll find what you wish, there'll be no need to fish.  It's smart on your cell, just do it...time will tell.
Need to know why?  Click here and you'll fly.
Now download that app – ClubRunner - I say
If Doug can do it, we're all on our way!

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)Diversité, équité et inclusion

“The COVID-19 pandemic and anti-racism solidarity demonstrations are calling out global inequities and the need for social justice. It is even more important that Rotary be an organization inclusive of all cultures, experiences, and identities.” -- from the introduction to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Rotary: How are we Doing?

Rotary is committed to putting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) at the core of the Rotary experience. “It is time for Rotary to create a new future for the organization, one that is more open and inclusive, fair to all, builds goodwill, and is beneficial to all of Rotary.” said 2018-19 President Barry Rassin when Rotary’s diversity, equity, and inclusion statement was adopted.

« La pandémie COVID-19 et les manifestations de solidarité contre le racisme dénoncent les inégalités mondiales et le besoin de justice sociale. Il est encore plus important que le Rotary soit une organisation intégrant toutes les cultures, expériences et identités. » - de l'introduction à Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Rotary: How are we Doing?

Spring cleaning at W. J. Bell Rotary Peace Park, Stittsville

Stittsville Rotarians met in-person on Jul 21, 2020 for the first time since the pandemic was declared in March 2020. Following Covid-19 guidelines, together they cleaned up the W.J. Bell Rotary Peace Park at 1751 Stittsville Main Street, pulling weeds and making the park like new again.

This Year’s District Conference is a Unique Opportunity You Won’t Want to Miss!

When we first started planning this year’s District Conference, our theme was “We’re Better Together.” Now, as the Covid-19 Pandemic is keeping us physically distant, it’s more important than ever to focus on the strength and opportunity that comes with working together as Rotarians. That’s why we’re holding this year’s District Conference online and we’ve adjusted our theme a little bit! We’re virtually better together!

Here's your opportunity to connect, be inspired, and celebrate the work of Rotary. Join us October 16-18, 2020 for our District’s first online District Conference. There is no cost to attend and the Conference is open to everyone. Invite your friends and neighbours to attend – it’s a great opportunity to introduce Rotary to them!

Rotaract is Moving Ahead!

We are excited to announce that Rotaract District 7040 has joined the recently formed Rotaract Canada! This is a great opportunity for Rotaractors in our district to get involved with Rotary at a new level. By joining Rotaract Canada, Rotaractors in our district will have access to new opportunities to serve, learn, and connect. As stated on their website, Rotaract Canada is a MDIO, meaning they “spread information about service projects and events and foster communication between districts”. Through joining Rotaract Canada, members in our district will have even more opportunities for personal and professional development and leadership training.

Excitingly, we already have a few Rotaractors in our district stepping into positions with Rotaract Canada, including: John Le, Hannah Glover, and Riley Weymann. There are a multitude of other opportunities to help serve and support clubs across the country with positions available to match any skill set, from graphic designer to copywriter to analyst. There are as many as 20 positions available for Rotaractors to apply for, see their website for more details.

Your Next Rotary Travel Destination / Votre prochaine destination voyage avec le Rotary

If you are one of the many Rotarians who had planned to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, last June, for the 2020 International Convention, I am certain you are still feeling sad about having to cancel your plans. Even if you may have attended some online events during the Virtual Convention, you might already be thinking about the next trip you’ll take.

Rejoice! The 2021 International Convention, which will take place in Taipei, Taiwan, is less than a year away (June 12 to 16, 2021) – and after all the time we’ve been spending meeting on screens, it will feel even better to get together and ‘feel the energy’, as the convention slogan goes.

Canada Day During COVID-19

Up until this year the club has held an annual Canada Day street parade for kids followed by free birthday cake for the public. A public parade was not possible this July because of COVID-19 so instead club members put on their thinking hats and instead sponsored a kid’s poster contest and adult story contest with What It Means to Be Canadian as the theme. All entries were printed in the North Renfrew Times.
