What Is your Rotary Club doing to focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in March 2021? Clean water and sanitation is a human right. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, they lead healthier and more successful lives. We don’t just build wells and walk away. Rotary members integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene into education projects. When children learn about disease transmission and practice good hygiene, they miss less school. And they can take those lessons home to their families, expanding our impact.
Clean water is a basic need for human beings. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, they live healthier and more productive lives. However, at least 3,000 children die each day from diseases caused by unsafe water, which is what motivates our members to build wells, install rainwater harvesting systems, and teach community members how to maintain new infrastructure.
I’d like to encourage you to call ON A REGULAR BASIS, your Rotary colleagues who are house bound for a number of reasons, or Rotarians that you have not seen in a while. Reach out to your neighbours for the same reasons. Does someone need groceries, their medication picked up, their dog walked, or to listen to their concerns?

Our family of Major Donors continues to grow, however in this case, a result of a realized estate gift. While we are always sad to say goodbye to members of our Rotary family, it does present an opportunity to remember them for the good that will come from their Bequest gift, now in action as an endowed gift to share with our district. I wish to recognize the late Dr. Arthur J. "Bud" McGinnis, of The Rotary Club of West Ottawa, in his honor and legacy. The decision to leave a Bequest gift remains vital to allowing our Rotary work to continue. Truly this group “opens opportunities” for us to serve in the world.
World Understanding & Peace Day is celebrated on February 23rd, the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary in 1905.
On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, District 3232 South India led an initiative Titled "The Sun Never Sets in Rotary". This was a non-stop cycle of meetings in succession hosted by Clubs/Districts in different time zones across the 6 continents. Each meeting segment was 90 minutes. The event started in D3232 on 23 Feb (1400 UK time) and concluded the following day with D3232 hosting the final meeting.

The Rotary Club of Napanee put a Team of Walkers into the Coldest Night of the Year Walk fundraiser to combat homelessness in our community. Our team had 7 members/walkers and we raised $2,655, surpassing our goal of $2,500.
The photo of our team walking on Feb 20th made the front page of our local paper, The Napanee Beaver. The beneficiary of the walk's fundraising dollars in Napanee is The Morningstar Mission who were recently interviewed.

February was another busy month for the Rotary Kingston Centennial. In addition to continuing to plan for the next four months and continuing with regular club activities, the Rotary clubs of Kingston held one Centennial event and launched an important project.
On Feb. 15th, Kingston’s World Champion Town Crier proclaimed a “Year of Rotary in Kingston.” Chris Whyman read from the city proclamation stating:
“Whereas the Rotary clubs of Kingston have been dedicated to meeting the needs of our citizens and have developed timely, relevant programs and projects to meet the needs and challenges of our community; and Whereas the Rotary clubs of Kingston are celebrating their 100th anniversary; and Whereas the Rotary clubs of Kingston have a number of projects and events planned for this Centennial in collaboration with many community partners; Therefore, l, Mayor Bryan Paterson, on behalf of Kingston City Council hereby proclaim July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 to be "A Year of Rotary in Kingston”.
My name is Elsabé Falkson, member of the Rotary Club of Kingston, and I would like to invite your club to participate in March Is Easter Seals Month. This annual monthlong campaign is the major Easter Seals (in our region) fundraiser of the year, and its success is critical in supporting your community's kids with physical disabilities with their equipment needs and a chance to attend, in-person or virtually, Camp Merrywood.
As you may be aware, Ontario Rotary clubs founded Easter Seals back in 1922, and while ES is now an independent charitable organization, it depends on Rotary and other community groups to assist the Easter Seals families in each region.
This past year has been especially tough for Easter Seals which relies heavily on participation events. The need for equipment and assistance for Easter Seals kids doesn't change so a lot is riding this year on Rotary club and other teams. Two area clubs are on board already – hope you can join in!

Those who know me well are aware that I am an avid reader and that I just love books. As well, I have made it my personal mission to put books in the hands of people: my children and stepchildren, husband, extended family, students, friends, even prisoners, and more! For me, reading is not just a hobby, it is a true passion that brings me a lot of joy – and I’d like to suggest some titles of interest to share that joy through a whole range of authors and themes.

District Governors past, present and future have recently had some general discussions on when, during the Rotary year, the District Conference should occur. It was agreed that the Spring is a better timeframe for our District Conference. One of the reasons discussed for the move included the fact that a Spring conference allows for a celebration of the Rotary year that has passed. For this year specifically, if we postpone the District Conference until Spring 2022, the chance of having an in-person conference increases considerably.
When the RI Board of Directors took the decision to move the 2021 International Assembly to a virtual format, we each realized that our District Governors Elect, partners and Rotaractors may not have the experience many of us refer to as the highlight of our District Governor year.
The virtual platform in many ways tried to replicate the in-person experience with General Sessions of inspiring and informative speakers. You can access the videos here.
