This is an invitation to all Rotarians, Rotaractors, and the whole Rotary family in District 7040 and beyond. Marking 2021 Earth Day, District 7040, along with neighbouring Districts, will be organizing a first-ever Rotary Great Lakes Watershed/St Lawrence River Cleanup on April 24, 2021. Individual clubs are welcome to hold their events during the week of April 17-24, 2021.
To date, we have commitments from 15 Districts bordering the Great Lakes as well as the Niagara, St. Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers and the Erie Canal in New York State. We are naming the event the Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup to open it up to any club on a waterway that empties into the Great Lakes system. Rotary International Director Valarie Wafer with Rotary International President Holger Knaack are both supportive of this collaborative project.
This will be a great way to engage our Rotary Family and non-Rotarians in a day of action, draw attention to our fragile environment and our desire to be part of the solution. With the plan for heavy promotion, it is an opportunity to bring awareness to the good work of Rotary.
Get your club to select a nearby waterway or even a local park to clean up and be a part of this exciting event on Saturday, April 24! Mark this in your calendars - more details will follow.
Rotary nettoyage du bassin versant des Grands Lacs
Il s’agit d’une invitation à tous les Rotariens, Rotaractors, et toute la famille Rotary dans le district 7040 et au-delà. À l’occasion du Jour de la Terre 2021, le District 7040, ainsi que les districts de voisins, organiseront un tout premier nettoyage du bassin versant des Grands Lacs et du fleuve Saint-Laurent le24 avril 2021. Les clubs individuels sont invités à tenir leurs événements au cours de la semaine du 17 au 24 avril 2021.
À ce jour, nous avons des engagements de 15 districts bordant les Grands Lacs ainsi que les rivières Niagara, Saint-Laurent et Ottawa et le canal Érié dans l’État de New York. Nous nommons l’événement le nettoyage du bassin versant des Grands Lacs pour l’ouvrir à n’importe quel club sur une voie navigable qui se jette dans le réseau des Grands Lacs. Valarie Wafer, directrice internationale du Rotary, et Holger Knaack, président du Rotary International, soutiennent tous deux ce projet collaboratif.
Ce sera une excellente façon d’engager notre famille Rotary et nos non-Rotariens dans une journée d’action, d’attirer l’attention sur notre environnement fragile et notre désir de faire partie de la solution. Avec le plan de forte promotion, c’est l’occasion de sensibiliser le public au bon travail du Rotary.
