What Makes Rotary Special

There are many things, but one thing that sets Rotary apart from other organizations is the Rotary Foundation. With November being Rotary Foundation Month, let’s review why a donation to The Rotary Foundation is a wise investment.

First, as stated on the Rotary Website, The Rotary Foundation is recognized as one of the most effective and well-managed charitable organizations in the world, with 12 consecutive four-star ratings from Charity Navigator and an A-plus rating from CharityWatch.

Second, something that not all Rotarians are aware of, The Rotary Foundation not only provides matches (up to 6 times the original amount, if you’re a Canadian club going for a Global Grant) for projects that support one of its six areas of focus. These grants can be used for not only International but also local grants. You just need to attend one of District 7040’s International Service Committee Meetings to realize all the good our District has provided and continues to accomplish throughout the world, with our 20+ projects annually.

And it keeps on going. I was approached while in Montreal this last week about a new $400,000 water project that is being put together as we speak. At the same time, the Kingston clubs are working on a Centennial project/grant that includes significant donations from Rotary clubs overseas for a local project in Kingston.  Please continue to follow the bulletin as I have asked for these clubs to submit articles to the bulletin outlining their project(s).

Third, Polio, let’s end it. With your help, we not only can, but have already changed the world through this worldwide project uniting the world in a common cause while also developing new ways to treat, prevent and eradicate other diseases.

Finally, Global Scholars and Peace Fellows.  District 7040 has been one of the top Districts for submitting and having our candidates selected as Peace Fellows. At the same time, our District continues to select and fund a Global Scholar every year.

So, I ask you...

If you have not given to The Rotary Foundation before, please make a donation or get involved with a local or global project either within your club or another club within the District. If you already given, please consider giving through Rotary Direct.

If you are a Club President, please look at sponsoring a Foundation or Polio fundraiser before the end of April.

Let’s make our Foundation support even stronger...make a contribution, go to rotary.org/donate.
