May is Youth Service Month. What a great fitting theme. The Adventure in Citizenship Program, hosted by the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Ottawa, attracts many young individuals to come and discover Ottawa and learn what it means to be a citizen of this great country. However, this year, the Adventure in Citizenship Organizing Committee decided to pivot and run the event online.

This online event is one of a kind, never been done before. Young citizens from all across the country will join in and learn about how privileged to be living in Canada. It takes place from May 1-5, 2021.

I want to congratulate the Rotary Club of Brockville, Ontario for celebrating its 100th anniversary this month. I also want to congratulate the Rotary Club of Gananoque, Ontario for celebrating its 90th anniversary. Please join me in sending them best wishes.
The Foundation walk that is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Brockville will be conducted virtually this year. On Saturday, May 15, go out and do your 5 kilometres or 3.2 miles walk on your own or with your family members. Go to your favourite park or green space and enjoy the outdoors while contributing to the Rotary Foundation. If you do not have a donation form, contact your club's Foundation chair and they will be able to provide you with one. Please, respect your health authority's advice when you are outdoors. Better yet, if you prefer to be indoors, get on your treadmill, put your favourite nature channel on your television and enjoy an hour of tranquillity and peace in your own space.

Last month I had the pleasure to be part of the Toastmaster District Conference. District 61 almost covers the same geographic area as our District. I also described to the attendees how important Rotary is to Toastmasters where they can apply their leadership skills to support their community.

I want to congratulate clubs in our district for maintaining and adding new members to their clubs. We have added 9 new members in March, and I know more members have been added in April.

Our District Training Team led by Chair Gayle Oudeh is working hard to get our President-Elect Training running smoothly for the 2021-22 Rotary Year. Our Committee Chairs and Area Governors had their online training in April. The Team Training Committee is planning to continue the online training throughout the next Rotary Year. PETS training will be continuous as well.
