I am pleased to announce that Area Governor Hadi Mortada, of the Rotary Club of West Ottawa, was selected to lead the district in 2020-2021 as our District Governor. Congratulations, Hadi! I also want to thank the other candidates and encourage them to re-apply again in the future. Many thanks also are extended to the Past District Governors for participating in this day-long process which benefits the continuation of leadership for District 7040.
This is a reminder that November is Foundation Month. How are you celebrating the Rotary Foundation in your club?
This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your club, your donors, and recognize donations with your club’s Foundation chair, or Area Governor, District Foundation Chair or other District leaders helping out. This is also a great time to talk about your plans for Community and International Service projects and grant participation plans. Whatever you already have planned, be sure to remind your club members that they can get tax deductible receipts for donations within the current calendar year.
The District celebrated its commitment to the Rotary Foundation with its Legacy Million Dollar Dinner at the Ottawa Convention Centre on November 4th featuring former Rotary International Director, Jennifer Jones. Yes, we achieved the million dollars plus and I will tell you the exact amount in next month’s message. Thank you to all District Rotarians who made commitments to The Rotary Foundation and made our two-year campaign a big success. Thank you to team members: Bill Gray, John Wilson, Walt Mulyca, Tim Virkler, Bonnie Black, Bette Miller, Gerry Lambert, Martha Weaver, Richard Levert, and Reid Asselstine, who assisted co-chairs Nabil Oudeh and myself.
PDG/Interact Chair Ariane Carriere reminds us that October 29-November 4 is Interact Week. Are you working with an Interact group or want to form one? Contact Ariane for guidance.
District Scholarship Chair, Katie Burke is continuing to organize Rotarians in the district to help on the translation committee. Can you provide some Rotary stewardship to help with this very important endeavor? In the pursuit to provide translations to French for all that we want to share, we do need some bilinguals to help us. We are a district of more than one language and want to respect this diversity with our French-speaking fellow Rotarians and friends. Please contact Katie.
November 18th is our second District Council meeting. Be sure to register online to facilitate the lunch count. Area Governors will be seeking assistance on how many of their club presidents have input their goals for membership, service, Foundation all leading to this year’s Rotary Citation. Please help your Area Governor.
December 9th is the meeting of the International Service/Foundation Committee. Be sure to register, and we look forward to hearing about potential projects.
I want to remind you that District Governor-Elect, Martha Weaver, along with District Governor-Nominee/Leadership Training Chair, Gerry Lambert and their team are actively planning for President-Elect Training Seminar and District Training Assembly, and are open to your suggestions.
Don’t forget to register for the International Convention in Toronto; let’s have a large number from our District attend. If you have not attended one before, this is a tremendous opportunity to participate, meet kind Rotarians from all over the world, and renew yourself as to why you became a Rotarian. Contact District RI Convention promoter, Bette Miller, with any questions.
Although I still have a few club visits remaining, thank you to all the clubs who have been so welcoming. Best wishes to all as we go forward in Making a Difference through Rotary.
Kind regards,
Sue Bellor
