Laval Rive-Nord

In Laval, we created a partnership with the Association of 8 Meals on Wheels with great success.

So far, Traiteur Tiguidou accepted to help them with his equipment and staff https://www.facebook.com/Traiteur-Tiguidou-372736743572898/  Hope other restaurants, écoles hôtelières and Uber Eats will do the same.

I also planned a Facebook fundraising (to be approved soon) and will ask business people to match donations.

I also accepted to provide help with online shopping for the 80 condos in our building via telephone and/or Zoom.  Of course, I will take advantage of the savings and donations to TRF via the Rotary Global Rewards program.

Plus I accepted to  facilitate Zoom meetings online for people living  with anxiety https://www.facebook.com/Phobies-Zéro-310024485850587/ and asked our School Board to help with training in other languages like Spanish and Portuguese staff.

Merci,

RC of Laval Rive-Nord posted a job offer to find drivers to help local stores deliver food, medicine and others.  The reply is amazing.  In 8 hours, we received 20 applications transferred to merchants recruitment websites.

We are now planning a social fundraising with neighboring Rotary Clubs to supply food to the needy.  With https://www.gofundme.com/ it is free and easy to set up.

Nous planifions une levée de fonds en ligne avec les Clubs Rotary voisins pour l’achat de nourriture.  Avec https://www.gofundme.com/ c’est facile et sans frais.

From outside our district:

By Lorraine Faherty, president, Damariscotta-Newcastle Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Damariscotta-Newcastle, Maine, in District 7780, has come up with a way to support both its local business and its healthcare workers – all without leaving self-quarantine!

Most of the restaurants in the community have been forced to close, although some are still providing take-out. The restaurant business is tough in normal times, and now many will struggle to survive. These businesses are an important part of the local economy, and have always been ready to donate to Rotary Club events. Rotarians want to help out!

On a volunteer basis, Rotarians are being asked to purchase gift certificates from the local restaurants of their choice, in $25 increments. The purchases are “bundled” by one Rotarian, who then organizes a group purchase of the certificates at each restaurant.

The Rotarian may use the gift certificate as he or she wishes, or course.  For those Rotarians who purchase more gift certificates than they can personally use, the club will donate them to employees of the local hospital.  These employees are showing up every day and keeping the community safe during these difficult times.

Already, an anonymous club member has offered to match all of the orders up to a significant level, so the value of each purchase will double! And the club has agreed that all individual contributors’ names and amounts will remain confidential except to the Rotarian collecting the donations, who will report only an aggregate number.

In a sobering reminder, the club is making it clear in its promotion that it cannot guarantee that restaurants will survive long enough for the certificates to be used. That said, the club is confident that the project can provide meaningful encouragement to Damariscotta-Newcastle restaurants and their employees, to the local economy in general, and to the community’s healthcare workers.

Cornwall Salvation Army: Our hearts are exploding with gratitude - Thank you to the Rotary Club of Cornwall for donating over $1000 in food to our Food Bank.

The club took our wish list and went out shopping and purchased the most needed products for our clients.
WOW. The Rotary Club of Cornwall Sunrise reached out to us not long ago, asking if we needed help.
It didn't take them long to show up with $2,000 worth of non-perishable food. We are so grateful! The Agape Centre, Cornwall.

Arnprior
During the current COVID-19 crisis, the need to help struggling families is now.  The Rotary Club of Arnprior met with Ontario Works on Friday, to hand over $10,500 in food, gas and supply gift cards to aid Renfrew County Families.  This ongoing Disaster Aid adds to the $3,050 funds donated by Rotary Clubs to help Renfrew County flood victims last fall.

The obtaining of these funds was spearheaded by Gerhard Peters of the Arnprior Rotary Club and the money comes from all District 7040 Rotary Clubs including the Ottawa Valley Rotary Clubs.  Contributing District Clubs come from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Northern New York State.

The total $10,500 of $50 Gift Cards included:
            $2,500 from Canadian Tire - including Gas,
            $   750 from ESSO Gas,
            $1,000 from Home Hardware,
            $5,500 from President’s Choice for groceries and medications (Shopper’s Drug Mart)
            $  750 from Ultramar Gas

These cards will be delivered to Andrea Patrick, Ontario Works Manager - Social Service Department, to disburse throughout Renfrew county to selected qualifying clients in need of this aid.

Renfrew
Renfrew Rotarians are helping out in a very simple way with our local grocery store.  We are doing deliveries of groceries to those who are unable to get out.

Metro grocery store has been our supplier for our Bacon on a Bun Booth at our Renfrew Fair for years.  He supplies everything for cost. This is our chance to give back to both the community and to the store owner for helping us out with our largest fundraiser.

We don’t need to collect any money or have anything to do with the customer, we just drop it on their porch because they’ve paid their credit card already. The grocery store owner is willing to pay for gas and give something for their efforts.  The requests for deliveries keeps growing.
